In Sagittarius, Kopel Gurwin interprets the zodiac sign of the Archer through the mythological figure of the centaur, combining human and equine forms into a single dynamic image. The archer holds a curved bow, drawing its string taut as the arrow points toward the right edge of the composition. The figure’s forward-directed gesture introduces a sense of purpose and movement, balanced by the firm stance of the horse beneath it.

The centaur is rendered in vibrant shades of crimson, magenta, and rose, its human torso and equine body joined through flowing, stylized shapes. Decorative bands and circular motifs articulate the horse’s body, while the archer’s expressive face and carefully positioned hands draw attention to the central action. Against the deep black ground, the figure’s saturated colors achieve a striking clarity.

An elaborate border surrounds the scene, composed of sweeping foliate ornaments in cobalt blue, lavender, and cool gray. Along its outer edge, a continuous sequence of turquoise and blue circles establishes a rhythmic frame, contrasting with the warm tones of the centaur. The precise cutting and layering of felt give definition to the individual forms, while the visible stitching reinforces their contours and decorative relationships. To the left of the figure, the Hebrew inscription Mazal Kashat is arranged vertically in pale blue and gray letterforms, becoming an integral part of the composition.

Traditionally represented by an archer, Sagittarius brings together the imagery of human intention and animal strength. Gurwin translates this familiar astrological emblem into a highly individual visual language, where bold color, ornamental rhythm, and symbolic form create a composition of energy and balance.
