Our commitment

The Kopel Gurwin website is a digital archive dedicated to the artworks and legacy of Kopel Gurwin (1923–1990). We aim to make its contents accessible to the widest possible audience, including visitors who use assistive technologies such as screen readers, screen magnification, voice control or keyboard-only navigation.

Accessibility standards

The website is developed and reviewed with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level AA, as its accessibility target. This is our own goal and assessment; the website has not been certified or independently audited for conformance.

Accessibility features

  • Semantic HTML with landmarks and a logical heading structure on every page.
  • A “Skip to content” link as the first item on every page.
  • Navigation and all interactive controls can be used with a keyboard, with a clearly visible focus indicator.
  • Text alternatives for the artworks and for the photographs and documents on the Biography page.
  • A “View full image” link beneath each artwork, opening the full-resolution image for closer viewing without a mouse. The magnifier that appears on mouse hover can be dismissed with the Escape key.
  • Gallery filters built as standard buttons that announce their selected state and the number of artworks shown.
  • Layouts that adapt to small screens and to browser zoom up to 400% without horizontal scrolling.
  • Animation and movement are reduced when your device asks for reduced motion.
  • Forms with visible labels, a note on which fields are required, error messages linked to the fields they concern, and status messages made available to screen readers.
  • An analytics consent notice whose choices can be made with a keyboard and changed at any time with “Cookie Preferences” at the bottom of every page.

Testing and improvements

In October 2026 we carried out an internal accessibility review against the WCAG 2.2 Level A and AA success criteria. It included automated testing with axe-core on representative pages at desktop and mobile sizes and at the equivalent of 400% zoom, keyboard and focus testing, checks of layout and reflow, and testing of the forms, the gallery filters, the artwork viewer, the navigation menu and the consent notice. The issues found were addressed in two rounds of improvements.

Automated testing can detect only some accessibility problems, so it cannot by itself establish full conformance. This review was carried out by us, not by an independent auditor.

Known limitations

  • Testing with screen readers and across all combinations of browsers and devices has not yet been completed, so some issues may remain undetected.
  • Hebrew lettering within the artworks and historical images is described in their text alternatives but not transcribed.
  • On some small screens, the text placed over the homepage artwork may be slightly harder to read where it crosses the lightest areas of the image.
  • The Artwork Value Estimator calculates in your browser and requires JavaScript.
  • External websites we link to, and the form-delivery service that processes contact messages, are outside our control.

Feedback and assistance

If you encounter an accessibility barrier on this website, or need help accessing any of its content, please let us know. Where possible, tell us which page is affected and describe the difficulty you experienced.
